Apostles’ Creed: The Holy catholic Church

After confessing our belief in God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we move on in the Creed to God’s visible presence left on earth: His church. The meaning of this week’s confession has been divisive historically: “I believe in the holy catholic church, the communion of saints.” Why do Christian’s place such a high value on the church? Do I love the church as much as Jesus does? Why do we confess that the church is holy and catholic? What is the communion of saints? As we look at what Jesus tells us about His church, prepare by meditating on Eph. 2:12-22 and consider how we can be built together as God’s dwelling place.
